Rudy was in the stands.
Wow! Notre Dame in a losing season beat USC 37-3. No wonder USC made a coaching change after the following season
When Miami was a powerhouse 🍊
Julius Dawkins....#80 Monessen Standout...Marino to Dawkins produced some magical moments...& the fumble wasn't one of them,BUT.....JD wasn't the only player to ever fumble the football...and without that passing combo,of Marino to Dawkins Pitt isn't #1 going into ND game...
Fight on for old Notre Dame!! That must be the theme with the USC fight song humming in the background. As an ardent Michigan State fan, I would love to see equal time granted to the Munn men of the Spartans. After those two losses, Biggie Munn beat Leahy three consecutive times from 1950-52. And when I say beat, I mean having their asses handed to them. In their last two meetings, MSU won by a combined total of 56-3!! Including a 35-0 whitewashing in 1951. As great as Leahy was, Munn was certainly on his level. Perhaps better. As great a sacrilege as that sounds. He remains the only coach to have a winning record against the master.
So awesome... and I was there, south end zone! Go Irish!☘
One of the unfortunate aspects of this game was that integration was yet to really take hold as it did later on. Leon Hart of Notre Dame said that the Irish had the greatest collection of talent ever assembled. HOW?! How good could any all white team be? Positions of speed are dominated by black athletes. Blanchard and Davis wouldnt make a pimple on the bum of Barry Sanders or Jim Brown. Just as the best defensive backs, receivers and many other positions are dominated by black athletes. There have been many splendid white players. That doesnt change the athletic edge black players had in numerous positions. Its only fair and honest to extend that well-deserved praise.
Back when college football was so fun, now it absolutely sux
I was at this game and Notre Dame fans were outnumbered 5 to 1 and no one expected the Irish to win. Just incredible. Great comeback. Jerome B. was a beast!!
Lindsay Null rocked the S*** out of this one!
Glad u enjoyed it 😁
I love seeing Thug U lose
Announcers to biased
I watched this live as a kid, amazing, but also terribly tackling…I believe in one game at the end one got called back for holding and he ran it back twice in a row, I forget what game that was
Tickets to this game started at 2895.93 in today's cash
He's the reason I became a ND fan! Love the Rocket!
Why doesn't Notre Dame wear green jerseys all the time?
I remember that game fighting Irish
If ND was so good why were they always behind?
why is the USC fight song in the background my ears are bleeding
This will darn near move you to tears
“A game in a perfect place” Anybody who has been to Notre Dame’s campus on a game day knows this to be true. It’s a place like no other. And an energy you will never forget.
Miami’s last loss until ‘Bama slaughter in Sugar Bowl?
Just something so soothing about the combination of that music, the storyline and bob costas voice 🥹
Before Pete Caroll began paying his players
rip tony roberts afterburners are on bye bye rocket
Who was the radio announcer for the 1948 game, WGN Chicago? Was it John Harrington?
I remember this game well. During the season, Notre Dame got upset by Tennessee and hammered by Penn State. Paterno was angry because Notre Dame got the Sugar Bowl bid. Penn State went to the Fiesta Bowl and clobbered Tennessee. I don't think either of the SEC teams were ready for the physical style of play that the Irish and Lions played. A greatwin for the Irish.
Lou firing his OC and DC after that Penn State game was such a smart move
Chris "The Turnover Machine" Rix. He was truly a feast or famine QB. He used to drive me absolutely nuts. Rix and Jeff Bowden. What a dark period in FSU football history.
Harry Kalas is such an awesome announcer.
The rocket
Thank you Notre Dame and Lou Holtz for one of the best games I ever watched as a high school football player. I write this now, 31 years later, and having played football for USC. To Coach Lou Holtz, I will never forget what you told me after our tie game in 1994 at the Coliseum. I said great game coach, you said it wasn’t a great game. A tie is like kissing your sister 😆
What pathetic game by Pitt.
Loved this crew especially Dan Dierdorf! Cool dude!
What's up with the SC fight song in the back gound?
I remembered this game. I was in high school then. Florida was the favorite. They didn't give ND a change against Florida. It was a great game. Go Irish 🙌🏾
Rivalry games are so special back then. Today they suck they don't mean as much
Best era of college football ever. 10 to 12 teams that were great and they played each other. I miss these days
First game in the lou holtz era that I thought no way the Irish win. The game turned physical and Florida couldn't handle it
Harry Calas? Awesome
We would love to see a Norte Dame Georgia game. .................. But we know that won't happen because Norte Dame has never ever beat Georgia. 😂
2:14 Now there coaches go to Baton Rouge to win championships. #1988
Ole Miss 20 Notre Dame 13 in September 1977! Of course, let's glorify ND! I don't care, but they were not perfect! Joe said that he was not there. Others say he was on the sidelines. Who cares? That was a legitimate ass whipping in the worst heat and humidity imaginable!
Gotdamn Jerome Bettis ripped Florida defense like a pop Warner team. I forgot all about this. What a treat to watch 😂 Bettis was a man among boys
I remember this game well as I was in a pool hall with some friends ( I was in college) and watched it unfold. Now we were in SEC country here but there was no love lost for either of these teams as Florida was well... Florida. An interesting observation that year. Florida was awful on astro turf that year as a few of us noticed this early in the season when Florida got bombed off the field at Syracuse. Some of us were surprised the Irish started slow but they eventually found what they needed. Sure Florida had some great talent and missed some opportunnites but it was kind of coll to see them implode mainly to watch Spurrier go nuclear. He is a great ball coach and I like him but some times he was a bit too cocky. His own players called him Coach Superior lol. Well that was what Jevon Kearse stated. Great memory.
John Robinson had that "This sh*t ain't cool, not cool at all." look on his face a few times throughout the game.
A Game for the Ages. Go Irish. The electric reaction of the crowd when the Irish took the field in the green jerseys was enough to light up the Chicago skyline
ND was the Hammer and Florida was the nail. All game long . Go Irish
Game has changed but would be great to have the FB as a key offensive weapon.
This was the high point of Faust time at ND, it was pretty well down from there
The most dynamic player in college i have ever seen
